Bibliometric analysis of the research hotspots and trends of circular RNAs.
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have garnered considerable attention in the study of various human diseases due to their ubiquitous expression and potential biological functions. This study conducts a bibliometric and visualization-based analysis of circRNA-related research in diseases, aiming to reveal the current status, hotspots and emerging trends within the field.
Literature published between 2013 and 2022 and indexed in the Web of Science core databases was retrieved. Visualizations of publication volume, countries, authors, institutions, journals, references, and keywords were performed. Microsoft Excel (2021) was used to analyze and graph publication volume and growth trends. Additionally, CiteSpace (version 6.1.R6) and VOSviewer (version 1.6.18) were employed to visualize the bibliographic information.
Between 2013 and 2022, a total of 4195 relevant articles on circRNA in the context of diseases were identified. These articles covered 56 countries, 2528 institutions, 19,842 authors and 698 journals, citing 85,541 references. The annual publication volume showed an exponential growth trend, with rapid development post-2017. China, the United States and Germany emerged as the top three contributors, demonstrating high publication volume and total citations. Notably, Nanjing Medical University exhibited the highest publication volume, boasting 291 articles. Burton B. Yang and Li Yang consistently ranked among the top 10 authors in terms of publication volume and citations, emerging as core contributors in this research field. The journal Bioengineered ranked first in terms of published articles (160), with an impact factor of 6.832, while Molecular Cancer garnered the highest impact factor (41.4), solidifying its position as a top journal in this field. Furthermore, high-frequency keywords included "expression" "proliferation" "biomarker" "microRNA" "cancer", signifying the prevailing research hotspots and principal themes of this field over the past decade. As of 2022, "biomarker", "prostate cancer","drug resistance","papillary thyroid carcinoma", etc. continued as keywords during the outbreak period. At present, the value of circRNA application is mainly reflected in the two aspects of biomarkers and therapeutic targets, and the prediction of accurate diagnosis and precise treatment based on big data analysis, especially in cancer, will become a hot spot of research in the future.
The trajectory of circRNA research from its biological origins to its applications in diseases has been delineated from 2013 to 2022. However, the transition to disease-specific applications and exploration of biological functions warrants further attention in future research endeavors.

Research Trends in the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Oncology: A Bibliometric and Network Visualization Study.
The past decade has seen major advances in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to solve various biomedical problems, including cancer. This has resulted in more than 6000 scientific papers focusing on AI in oncology alone. The expansiveness of this research area presents a challenge to those seeking to understand how it has developed. A scientific analysis of AI in the oncology literature is therefore crucial for understanding its overall structure and development. This may be addressed through bibliometric analysis, which employs computational and visual tools to identify research activity, relationships, and expertise within large collections of bibliographic data. There is already a large volume of research data regarding the development of AI applications in cancer research. However, there is no published bibliometric analysis of this topic that offers comprehensive insights into publication growth, co-citation networks, research collaboration, and keyword co-occurrence analysis for technological trends involving AI across the entire spectrum of oncology research. The purpose of this study is to investigate documents published during the last decade using bibliometric indicators and network visualization. This will provide a detailed assessment of global research activities, key themes, and AI trends over the entire breadth of the oncology field. It will also specifically highlight top-performing authors, organizations, and nations that have made major contributions to this research domain, as well as their interactions via network collaboration maps and betweenness centrality metric. This study represents the first global investigation of AI covering the entire cancer field and using several validated bibliometric techniques. It should provide valuable reference material for reorienting this field and for identifying research trajectories, topics, major publications, and influential entities including scholars, institutions, and countries. It will also identify international collaborations at three levels: micro (that of an individual researcher), meso (that of an institution), and macro (that of a country), in order to inform future lines of research.
The Science Citation Index Expanded from the Web of Science Core Collection was searched for articles and reviews pertaining exclusively to AI in cancer from 2012 through 2022. Annual publication trends were plotted using Microsoft Excel 2019. CiteSpace and VOSViewer were used to investigate the most productive countries, researchers, journals, as well as the sharing of resources, intellectual property, and knowledge base in this field, along with the co-citation analysis of references and keywords.
A total of 6757 documents were retrieved. China produced the most publications of any country (2087, 30.89%), and Sun Yat Sen University the highest number (167, 2.47%) of any institute. WEI WANG was the most prolific author (33, 0.49%). RUI ZHANG ranked first for highest betweenness centrality (0.21) and collaboration criteria. Scientific Reports was found to be the most prolific journal (208, 3.18%), while PloS one had the most co-citations (2121, 1.55%). Strong and ongoing citation bursts were found for keywords such as "tissue microarray", "tissue segmentation", and "artificial neural network".
Deep learning currently represents one of the most cutting-edge and applicable branches of AI in oncology. The literature to date has dealt extensively with radiomics, genomics, pathology, risk stratification, lesion detection, and therapy response. Current hot topics identified by our analysis highlight the potential application of AI in radiomics and precision oncology.

Global research landscape and trends of papillary thyroid cancer therapy: a bibliometric analysis.
Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most common endocrine malignancy worldwide. The treatment of PTC has attracted extensive attention and discussion from the public and scholars. However, no article has systematically assessed the related literature. Therefore, we conducted a bibliometric and knowledge map analysis to reveal the dynamic scientific developments in the PTC therapy field.
We retrieved publications related to PTC therapy from the Web of Scientific Core Collection (WoSCC) on May 1, 2023. The bibliometric package in R software, VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were used to analyze countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords. Then, we systematized and summarized the research landscape, global trends and hot topics of research.
This bibliometric analysis spanned from 2012 to 2022 and involved 18,501 authors affiliated with 3,426 institutions across 87 countries/regions, resulting in the publication of 3,954 papers in 860 academic journals. Notably, the number of publications and citations related to PTC therapy research has exhibited a steady increase over the past decade. China and the United States have emerged as leading contributors in terms of publication count, with the United States also being the most cited country. Furthermore, among the top 10 institutions with the highest number of published papers, half were located in China. Among the journals, Thyroid is ranked first in terms of total publications and citations. The most productive individual author was Miyauchi Akira. While previous research primarily focused on surgery and radioactive iodine therapy, the increasing emphasis on health awareness and advancements in medical technology have led to the emergence of active surveillance, thermal ablation, and genomic analysis as prominent areas of research.
In conclusion, this comprehensive and quantitative bibliometric analysis elucidates the research trends and hotspots within PTC therapy, drawing from a substantial body of publications. This study provides valuable insights into the historical and current landscape of PTC therapy research while also offering guidance for future research directions. This study serves as a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners seeking new avenues of exploration in the field.

Bibliometric Analysis of Global Circular RNA Research Trends from 2007 to 2018.
Circular RNA (circRNA) is of significant interest in genetic research. The aim of this study was to assess global trends in circRNA research production in order to shed new light on future research frontiers.
In this retrospective study, we conducted a literature search using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database on March 21, 2019 to retrieve publications from 2007 to 2018. Excel 2013, CiteSpace V, and VOSviewer were used to evaluate bibliometric features that included publication output, countries/regions, institutions, journals, citation frequency, H-index, and research hotspots.
Global cumulative publication output on circRNA consisted of 998 papers with a total citation of 28 595 during 2007-2018. China, the US, and Germany were the most prolific countries. China ranked first in H-index (60 times) and citations (13 333 times). The most productive institution was Nanjing Medical University with 73 papers. Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications (impact factor [IF]2017:2.559) ranked first among journals in the number of publications (64 papers). The keywords shifted from "sequence", "intron", and "splice-site" to "transcriptome", "microRNA sponge", "exon circularization", and "circRNA biogenesis" overtime. The burst keywords "transcriptome", "microRNA sponge", "exon circularization", and "circRNA biogenesis" were the latest frontiers by 2018.
This is a relatively novel bibliometric analysis to inspect research related to circRNA. The results show that publications have continuously increased in the past decade. China, the US, and Germany were the leading countries/regions in terms of quantity. Recent studies on topics related to circRNA biogenesis and function should be closely followed in this field.

The Application of microRNAs in Papillary Thyroid Cancer: A Bibliometric and Visualized Analysis.
Thyroid cancer is the most common malignant endocrine tumor, with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) being the most prevalent type, accounting for 85% of thyroid cancer cases. Here, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of the literature in the field of microRNAs in PTC research to demonstrate current trends and research hotspots, and present a visual map of past and emerging trends.
We searched the Web of Scientific Core Collection (WoSCC) database for publications from 1999 to 2023 centered on this field. Next, we employed visualization tools such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Microsoft Excel 2019 to present co-occurrence and co-citation analyses, trends, hotspots, and visual representations of contributions from authors, institutions, journals, and countries/regions.
The bibliometric analysis encompassed the period from 1999 to 2023, with 994 papers from 54 countries/regions. The country with the most publications and highest total citations was the People's Republic of China, but the United States held the highest average citation rate. Among the top ten productive institutions, the Ohio State University (Ohio State Univ) was the most prominent contributor to this field. The JOURNAL OF CLINICAL ENDOCRINOLOGY & METABOLISM (J Clin Endocrinol Metab) ranked first in terms of citation counts and average citations among the top ten productive journals. In terms of keywords, "circular RNAs", "promotes", and "progression" have become prominent research areas.
This study elucidates current trends, hotspots, and emerging frontiers in miRNA research within PTC, and provides new insights and guidance for future identification of new PTC biomarkers and clinical trials.
