Insight into the research history and trends of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection: a bibliometric analysis.

Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) is a rare congenital heart disease characterized by the inability of all pulmonary veins to connect to the left atrium. Our previous bibliometric article summarized the characteristics of only the 100 most cited papers in TAPVC research. The purpose of this study was to use comprehensive bibliometric analysis to examine the development history, current status, and future trends in the field of TAPVC. All publications on TAPVC published between 2000 and 2023 were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection. The publication and citation data were quantitatively analyzed by publication year, country, institution, author, and journal. Co-authorship and co-occurrence analyses were performed using VOSviewer, and keyword and reference bursts were identified using CiteSpace. Pearson's test was used to examine the correlations between two continuous variables. As of July 20, 2023, we identified 368 publications with 3320 citations. These publications were published in 132 journals and authored by 1835 researchers from 457 institutions in 47 countries. For the number of publications, the top country, top institution, top author, and top journals were the United States (n = 82), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (n = 13), Huiwen Chen (n = 9), and Annals of Thoracic Surgery and Pediatric Cardiology (n = 29 each), respectively. For the number of citations, the top country, top affiliation, top author, and top journal were the United States (n = 1348), University of Toronto (n = 250), Christopher A. Caldarone (n = 315), and Annals of Thoracic Surgery (n = 746), respectively. The number of national publications significantly correlated with GDP (R = 0.887, P < 0.001), research & development (R&D) expenditure (R = 0.375, P = 0.013), population (R = 0.694, P < 0.001), and journals (R = 0.751, P < 0.001). The number of national citations significantly correlated with GDP (R = 0.881, P < 0.001), R&D expenditure (R = 0.446, P = 0.003), population (R = 0.305, P = 0.037), and journals (R = 0.917, P < 0.001). International collaboration in the field of TAPVC was not well developed. The most commonly cited publication discussed era changes in mortality and reoperation rate in TAPVC patients. The most common keywords were "total anomalous pulmonary venous connection" and "congenital heart disease". The keyword "case report" appeared most recently, with an average occurrence year of 2021.8. The co-occurrence analysis grouped 26 keywords into six themes: surgical repair of TAPVC, postoperative pulmonary vein stenosis, surgical repair of TAPVC patients with heterotaxy, application of echocardiography in diagnosing TAPVC, application of echocardiography in the prenatal diagnosis of TAPVC, and application of the sutureless technique in the surgical repair of TAPVC patients with right atrial isomerism or a single ventricle. Citation burst detection identified 32 references with citation bursts, seven of which had ongoing citation bursts until 2023. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis to provide a comprehensive overview of TAPVC research. We hope to offer new ideas for promoting development in the field of TAPVC.

The 100 most cited papers on total anomalous pulmonary venous connection: a bibliometric analysis.

The number of citations a paper receives reflects its impact on the scientific community. We aimed to identify and explore the characteristics of the most cited papers on total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC). Web of Science Core Collection Expanded Science Citation Index (1900 to present) was searched and papers on TAPVC were reviewed. Articles were ranked by the number of citations and the 100 most cited papers were analyzed. The 100 most cited papers were published between 1952 and 2018 with a mean number of citations of 52 (range 26 to 148). The 1990s was the most productive decade. All articles except one were written in English. The 100 most cited articles were published in 24 journals, led by Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (21 articles), followed by Annals of Thoracic Surgery (20 articles), and Circulation (16 articles). The United States of America contributed most of the 100 most cited papers (60 articles). Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto led the list of citation classics with six papers. Christopher A. Caldarone, John W. Kirklin, and P. E. F. Daubeney were the most productive authors with 3 articles each. More than half of the papers were cohort studies (51 articles). Surgery, radiology and etiology were the main topics. Thirty-one articles were funded by public foundations, and none received support from commercial companies. The bibliometric analysis gives a historical perspective on scientific progress in the field of TAPVC and lays the foundation for future research.

Research Trends in the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Oncology: A Bibliometric and Network Visualization Study.

The past decade has seen major advances in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to solve various biomedical problems, including cancer. This has resulted in more than 6000 scientific papers focusing on AI in oncology alone. The expansiveness of this research area presents a challenge to those seeking to understand how it has developed. A scientific analysis of AI in the oncology literature is therefore crucial for understanding its overall structure and development. This may be addressed through bibliometric analysis, which employs computational and visual tools to identify research activity, relationships, and expertise within large collections of bibliographic data. There is already a large volume of research data regarding the development of AI applications in cancer research. However, there is no published bibliometric analysis of this topic that offers comprehensive insights into publication growth, co-citation networks, research collaboration, and keyword co-occurrence analysis for technological trends involving AI across the entire spectrum of oncology research. The purpose of this study is to investigate documents published during the last decade using bibliometric indicators and network visualization. This will provide a detailed assessment of global research activities, key themes, and AI trends over the entire breadth of the oncology field. It will also specifically highlight top-performing authors, organizations, and nations that have made major contributions to this research domain, as well as their interactions via network collaboration maps and betweenness centrality metric. This study represents the first global investigation of AI covering the entire cancer field and using several validated bibliometric techniques. It should provide valuable reference material for reorienting this field and for identifying research trajectories, topics, major publications, and influential entities including scholars, institutions, and countries. It will also identify international collaborations at three levels: micro (that of an individual researcher), meso (that of an institution), and macro (that of a country), in order to inform future lines of research. The Science Citation Index Expanded from the Web of Science Core Collection was searched for articles and reviews pertaining exclusively to AI in cancer from 2012 through 2022. Annual publication trends were plotted using Microsoft Excel 2019. CiteSpace and VOSViewer were used to investigate the most productive countries, researchers, journals, as well as the sharing of resources, intellectual property, and knowledge base in this field, along with the co-citation analysis of references and keywords. A total of 6757 documents were retrieved. China produced the most publications of any country (2087, 30.89%), and Sun Yat Sen University the highest number (167, 2.47%) of any institute. WEI WANG was the most prolific author (33, 0.49%). RUI ZHANG ranked first for highest betweenness centrality (0.21) and collaboration criteria. Scientific Reports was found to be the most prolific journal (208, 3.18%), while PloS one had the most co-citations (2121, 1.55%). Strong and ongoing citation bursts were found for keywords such as "tissue microarray", "tissue segmentation", and "artificial neural network". Deep learning currently represents one of the most cutting-edge and applicable branches of AI in oncology. The literature to date has dealt extensively with radiomics, genomics, pathology, risk stratification, lesion detection, and therapy response. Current hot topics identified by our analysis highlight the potential application of AI in radiomics and precision oncology.

Global trends in research of acute type a aortic dissection: A bibliometric analysis from 2002 to 2022.

Acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) is life-threatening and needs urgent and highly invasive surgery. So far, there is no comprehensive review of the status quo of ATAAD studies. Therefore, this study aimed to quantify and identify the global trends of ATAAD research over the past two decades through bibliometric analysis and to provide reference for clinical practice, research funding allocation, and decision-making. The original research articles and reviews related to ATAAD research were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection on March 19, 2023. CiteSpace (6.2.1) and VOSviewer (1.6.18) were used for bibliometric analysis of the number of publications by each country, institution, and authors and the establishment of knowledge maps. The raw data collected were examined using the Online Analysis Platform of Bibliometric to assess the collaboration of countries in the field. The number of documents on ATAAD research increased continuously. A total of 1,943 publications published from 2002 to 2022 from 66 countries/regions were identified: 637 (32.78%) were conducted in China and 360 (18.53%) in the United States; 152 (cited frequency 941) were conducted by Capital Medical University and 107 (cited frequency 370) by Fujian Medical University. The Journal of Cardiac Surgery was the most frequently published journal (143 publications, cited frequency 695). The highest citation and co-cited journal was the Annals of Thoracic Surgery (cited frequency 3,888, co-cited frequency 6,224). We identified 8,050 authors among which Lizhong Sun (61 publications, cited frequency 721) had the largest number of publications, and Nienaber Christoph A (cited frequency 1,536, co-cited frequency 392) was co-cited most often. Meanwhile, the most common keywords were acute type A aortic dissection (occurrences, 1,211), surgery (occurrences, 657), repair (occurrences, 404), and management (occurrences, 386). The earliest and latest used keywords were "axillary artery" (average publication year: 2011.23) and "inflammation" (average publication year: 2019.09), respectively. The keyword "surgical treatment" (strength 12.31) and the co-cited reference "Evangelista A, 2018, Circulation" (strength 28.55) had the highest citation bursts. The keywords "impact" and "acute kidney injury" remained high citation bursts. The co-cited references with the largest and smallest size clusters were "cerebral protection" (#0, size = 126) and "pregnancy" (#12, size = 11). The reference "Hagan PG, 2000, JAMA" (cited frequency, 350) had the highest co-citations. The bibliometric and visualized analysis generated objective evidence for a comprehensive understanding and evaluation of ATAAD research.
