EXPRESSION OF CONCERN: A small molecule, LLL12 inhibits constitutive STAT3 and IL-6-induced STAT3 signaling and exhibits potent growth suppressive activity in human multiple myeloma cells.

This Expression of Concern is for the above article, published online on 24 December 2013, in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), and has been issued by agreement between the journal Editor-in-Chief Michael Brunner; FEBS Press; and John Wiley and Sons Ltd. The Expression of Concern has been agreed due to concerns raised by a third party regarding the similarity of beta-actin blots in Fig. 3A between the HepG2 and the MHCC-97H lanes. The authors responded to an inquiry by the publisher and supplied what was labelled as original data. However, following an evaluation of the authors' response by FEBS and the editors, Wiley and the journal have determined that they are unable to verify if the files provided by the authors correspond to the research described in the article. The journal is issuing this Expression of Concern because the results of the experiment as presented cannot be confirmed. The authors do not agree with the expression of concern.

The above article, published online on November 11, 2014, in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), has been retracted by agreement between the journal Editor-in-Chief Michael Brunner, FEBS Press, and John Wiley and Sons Ltd. The retraction has been agreed following an investigation into concerns raised by a third party, which revealed inappropriate duplications of image panels in Figs 6B, 7A, and S1C. The authors responded to an inquiry by the publisher and provided images related to the duplicated microscopy images and Western blots. Upon review of the provided images, the editors determined that these images did not provide compelling evidence for the integrity of the underlying data. The editors consider the conclusions substantially compromised and are therefore retracting the paper. The authors disagree with this retraction.

RETRACTION: Selection for TRAIL Resistance Results in Melanoma Cells with High Proliferative Potential.
J. J. Wu, X. D. Zhang, S. Gillespie, and P. Hersey, "Selection for TRAIL Resistance Results in Melanoma Cells with High Proliferative Potential," FEBS Letters 579, no. 9 (2005): 1940-1944, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.febslet.2005.02.041. The above article, published online on February 25, 2005, in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), has been retracted by agreement between the journal Editor-in-Chief, Michael Brunner; FEBS Press; and John Wiley and Sons Ltd. The retraction has been agreed upon following an investigation into concerns raised by a third party, which revealed inappropriate duplications of image sections within the article (Fig. 2A, 3A-C, 4A-B) depicting different experimental conditions. The authors were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation and due to the elapsed time the raw data was not available. Given the extent of the identified issues, the editors have lost confidence in the data presented and the article's conclusions can no longer be considered reliable.

https://doi.org/10.1002/2211-5463.13221 The above article, published online on 08 June 2021 in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), has been retracted by agreement between the authors, the Editor-in-Chief Miguel De la Rosa, FEBS Press, and John Wiley and Sons Ltd. The retraction has been agreed following an investigation into concerns raised by a third party, which revealed inappropriate duplications between this and articles that were either previously published or published later in the same year [1-9]. Thus, the editors consider the conclusions of this manuscript substantially compromised. [1] Zheng, X., Huang, M., Xing, L. et al. RETRACTION: Role of the PDK1-PKB-GSK3 Pathway in Regulating Glycogen Synthase and Glucose Uptake in the Heart.
A. Mora, K. Sakamoto, E. J. McManus, and D. R. Alessi, "Role of the PDK1-PKB-GSK3 Pathway in Regulating Glycogen Synthase and Glucose Uptake in the Heart," FEBS Letters 579, no. 17 (2005): 3632-3638, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.febslet.2005.05.040. The above article, published online on 06 June 2005 in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), has been retracted by agreement between the authors; the journal Editor-in-Chief, Michael Brunner; FEBS Press; and John Wiley and Sons Ltd. The journal was contacted by a representative of the research integrity group at the authors' institute, since an institutional investigation revealed inappropriate splicing and duplication of image sections within Fig. 2A, B and Fig. 3A. Consequently, the conclusions of the paper are substantially compromised, and the institute has recommended the paper to be retracted. The editors of the journal agree with the retraction based on the institutional investigation.
