The prognostic value of inflammation markers in postoperative gliomas with or without adjuvant treatments.
Recent studies have shown that some inflammatory markers are associated with the prognosis of solid tumors. This study aims to evaluate the prognosis of glioma patients with or without adjuvant treatment using the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR).All patients who were diagnosed with gliomas at the first and second affiliated hospital of Guangxi Medical University between 2011 and 2020 were included in this study. The optimal cutoff value of SII, NLR, and PLR was determined by X-tile software program. We stratified patients into several groups and evaluated the progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of SII, NLR, and PLR during the period of pre-surgical, con-chemoradiotherapy, and post-treatments. Multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to detect the relationships between OS, PFS, and prognostic variables.A total of 67 gliomas patients were enrolled in the study. The cutoff values of SII, NLR, and PLR were 781.5 × 109/L, 2.9 × 109/L, and 123.2 × 109/L, respectively. Patients who are pre-SII < 781.5 × 109/L had better PFS (P = .027), but no difference in OS. In addition, patients who had low pre-NLR (<2.9 × 109/L) meant better OS and PFS. PLR after adjuvant treatments (post-PLR) was significantly higher than pre-PLR (P = .035). Multivariate analyses revealed that pre-SII, pre-NLR were independent prognostic factors for OS (pre-SII: HR 1.002, 95% CI: 1.000-1.005, P = .030 and pre-PLR: HR 0.983, 95% CI: 0.973-0.994, P = .001), while pre-PLR was an independent factor for PFS (HR 0.989, 95% CI: 0.979-1.000, P = .041).High pre-SII or high pre-NLR could be prognostic markers to identify glioma patients who had a poor prognosis.

Systemic immune-inflammation index, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio can predict clinical outcomes in patients with metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer treated with nivolumab.
Explore markers to predict the clinical outcomes of checkpoint inhibitors have high unmet needs. The following study investigates whether hematologic parameter such as systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) is associated with nivolumab efficacy in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Advanced/metastatic NSCLC patients treated with nivolumab monotherapy for second-line or further-line treatment at Jilin Cancer Hospital between March 2016 and July 2018 were enrolled in this retrospective study. The optimal cutoff values of SII, NLR, and PLR for predicting efficacy and prognosis were determined according to receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the areas under the ROC curve. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were calculated and compared using Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. Prognostic values of each variable were evaluated with univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression (PHR) analyses.
A total of 44 patients with advanced NSCLC were included; the median age was 60 (range: 43-74). The optimal cutoff value of SII/NLR/PLR predicted PFS and OS was 603.5, 3.07, and 144. Low SII, NLR, and PLR were associated with longer PFS (HR for SII = 0.34, 95%CI 0.15-0.76, P = 0.006; HR for NLR = 0.46, 95%CI 0.22-0.99, P = 0.048; HR for PLR = 0.39, 95%CI 0.17-0.94, P = 0.025) and OS (HR for SII = 0.16, 95%CI 0.05-0.51, P = 0.005; HR for NLR = 0.20, 95%CI 0.06-0.62, P = 0.002; HR for PLR = 0.20, 95%CI 0.06-0.73, P = 0.008). NLR ≤ 3.07, PLR ≤ 144, SII ≤ 603.5 were independently associated with longer PFS and OS.
The SII, NLR, and PLR are promising prognostic predictor for patients with metastatic NSCLC patients.

The Relationship Between Preoperative Systemic Immune Inflammation Index and Prognostic Nutritional Index and the Prognosis of Patients With Alveolar Hydatid Disease.
To explore the relationship between the preoperative immune inflammation index (SII) and the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and the overall survival rate (OS) of patients with alveolar hydatid disease.
The clinical data of patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis treated by surgery in the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University from January 2015 to January 2019 were analyzed retrospectively, and the SII, PNI, PLR and NLR were calculated. Spearman correlation analysis was utilized to analyze the correlation among SII, PNI, PLR and NLR. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was utilized to determine the best intercept values of SII, PNI, PLR and NLR, and Chi-square test was used to evaluate the relationship between SII, PNI and various clinicopathological features in patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis. The kaplan-Meier method was used to draw survival curves and analyze the relationship between them and the total survival time of patients. A cox regression model was used to analyze the relationship between SII, PNI and the prognosis of patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis. Finally, ROC curve was used to estimate the predictive efficacy of SII, PNI and COSII-PNI for the prognosis of patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis.
A total of 242 patients were included, including 96 males and 146 females, aged 11.0-67.0 (36.6 ± 11.7) years. The values of SII, PNI, PLR and NLR are calculated, and the best truncation values of SII, PNI, PLR and NLR are given in ROC curve. The kaplan-Meier survival curve was used to analyze the relationship between SII, PNI, PLR, NLR and the overall survival time of patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis. The results showed that the median follow-up time was 45 months (95%CI: 39.484-50.516), and the average survival time was 49 months (95%CI: 47.300-51.931), which was low p<0.001); The 5-year OS rate of low PNI was significantly lower than that of high PNI group (37.7% vs 71.6%; p<0.001); The 5-year OS rate in low PLR group was significantly higher than that in high PLR group (70.4% vs 24.3%; p<0.001); The 5-year OS rate in low NLR group was significantly higher than that in high NLR group (67.2% vs 28.8%; p<0.001). Cox unifoliate analysis showed that SII, PNI, PLR and NLR were important prognostic factors related to OS. Cox multivariate analysis showed that SII(HR=4.678, 95% CI: 2.581-8.480, P<0.001) and PNI(HR=0.530, 95%CI: 0.305-0.920, P<0.05) were identified as independent risk indicators of OS, while NL was identified as independent risk indicators of OS ROC curve analysis showed that AUC of SII, PNI, PLR, NLR and COSII-PNI were 0.670(95%CI: 0.601-0.738), 0.638(95%CI: 0.561-0.716) and 0.618(95% CI: 0.541-0.694), respectively COSII-PNI is superior to SII and PNI in evaluating prognosis (P < 0.05).
SII and PNI can be regarded as independent risk factors reflecting the prognosis of patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis. The lower SII and the higher PNI before operation, the better the prognosis of patients, and the combined application of SII and PNI before operation can improve the accuracy of prediction.

Prognostic nutritional index and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio predict toxicities and prognosis in patients with cervical cancer treated with curative radiochemotherapy.
This study aimed to investigate the influence of immunonutritional factors on treatment-related toxicities and survival outcomes in patients with cervical cancer undergoing definitive radiochemotherapy.
Patients with cervical cancer who received curative radiochemotherapy between 2016 and 2021 were retrospectively investigated. Pretreatment prognostic nutritional index (PNI), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were measured. Survival outcomes, acute and late toxicities were evaluated.
Among the 138 patients, those with larger tumor diameters had significantly lower pre-treatment PNI (p = 0.005). Pre-treatment immunonutritional factors were predictive of clinical survival, whereas post-treatment factors did not correlate with prognosis. Patients with low pre-treatment PNI (<49.5) or high NLR (>2.4) had shorter progression-free survival (PFS, HR: 1.86, p = 0.045 for PNI; HR: 3.15, p = 0.002 for NLR) and overall survival (OS, HR: 1.80, p = 0.048 for PNI; HR: 3.83, p = 0.015 for NLR). High pre-treatment NLR was associated with an increased risk of acute diarrhea (p = 0.049) and late severe toxicities (p = 0.046). Combined analysis revealed that pre-treatment good nutritional status and low systemic inflammation were linked to longer PFS (p = 0.007) and OS (p = 0.002), and poor nutritional status and substantial systemic inflammation were associated with higher rates of late severe toxicities (p = 0.036), with higher prognostic value in advanced stage patients.
Pretreatment immunonutritional measures serve as quantitative biomarkers for predicting survivals and treatment toxicities in patients with cervical cancer treated with definitive radiochemotherapy.
