Knowledge mapping of programmed cell death in osteonecrosis of femoral head: a bibliometric analysis (2000-2022).
Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common, refractory and disabling disease of orthopedic department, which is one of the common causes of hip pain and dysfunction. Recent studies have shown that much progress has been made in the research of programmed cell death (PCD) in ONFH. However, there is no bibliometric analysis in this research field. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure and research hot spots of PCD in ONFH through bibliometrics.
The literature search related to ONFH and PCD was conducted on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from 2002 to 2021. The VOSviewers, "bibliometrix" R package and CiteSpace were used to conduct this bibliometric analysis.
In total, 346 articles from 27 countries led by China and USA and Japan were included. The number of publications related to PCD in ONFH is increasing year by year. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi An Jiao Tong University, Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology are the main research institutions. Molecular Medicine Reports is the most popular journal in the field of PCD in ONFH, and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research is the most cocited journal. These publications come from 1882 authors among which Peng Hao, Sun Wei, Zhang Chang-Qing, Zhang Jian and Wang Kun-zheng had published the most papers and Ronald S Weinstein was cocited most often. Apoptosis, osteonecrosis, osteonecrosis of the femoral head, glucocorticoid and femoral head appeared are the main topics the field of PCD in ONFH. Autophagy was most likely to be the current research hot spot for PCD in ONFH.
This is the first bibliometric study that comprehensively summarizes the research trends and developments of PCD in ONFH. This information identified recent research frontiers and hot directions, which will provide a reference for scholars studying PCD in ONFH.

Global Trends in Research of Programmed Cell Death in Osteoporosis: A Bibliometric and Visualized Analysis (2000-2023).
Osteoporosis (OP) is a systemic metabolic bone disease that is characterized by decreased bone mineral density and microstructural damage to bone tissue. Recent studies have demonstrated significant advances in the research of programmed cell death (PCD) in OP. However, there is no bibliometric analysis in this research field. This study searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database for literature related to OP and PCD from 2000 to 2023. This study used VOSviewers 1.6.20, the "bibliometrix" R package, and CiteSpace (6.2.R3) for bibliometric and visualization analysis. A total of 2905 articles from 80 countries were included, with China and the United States leading the way. The number of publications related to PCD in OP is increasing year by year. The main research institutions are Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Chinese Medical University, Southern Medical University, Zhejiang University, and Soochow University. Bone is the most popular journal in the field of PCD in OP, and the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research is the most co-cited journal. These publications come from 14,801 authors, with Liu Zong-Ping, Yang Lei, Manolagas Stavros C, Zhang Wei, and Zhao Hong-Yan having published the most papers. Ronald S. Weinstein was co-cited most often. Oxidative stress and autophagy are the current research hot spots for PCD in OP. This bibliometric study provides the first comprehensive summary of trends and developments in PCD research in OP. This information identifies the most recent research frontiers and hot directions, which will provide a definitive reference for scholars studying PCD in OP.

Worldwide research trends on femur head necrosis (2000-2021): a bibliometrics analysis and suggestions for researchers.
Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common and stubborn disease. The main causes are venous stasis of the femoral head, arterial blood supply damage, bone cell and bone marrow death, and bone tissue necrosis and subsequent repair obstacles. Over the past 22 years, the number of papers on ONFH has, overall, continued to increase.
Using bibliometrics, we investigated the trends, frontiers, and hotspots of global scientific output in the past 22 years. We searched Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and retrieved information associated with papers and records published between 2000 and 2021. We used VOSviewer and CiteSpace to conduct bibliometric analysis and visual analysis on the overall distribution of annual output, major countries, active institutions, journals, authors, commonly cited literature, and keywords. The impact and quality of the papers were assessed using the global citation score (GCS).
We retrieved a total of 2006 articles and reviews. Over the past 22 years, the number of publications (NP) increased. China ranked first in terms of NP, while the United States had the highest h-index and the highest number of citations (NC). Shanghai Jiao Tong University and International Orthopaedics were the institution and periodical, respectively. The paper written by Mont et al. in 2006 had the highest total GCS score, at 379. The top three keywords were "ischemic necrosis", "osteonecrosis", and "hip joint". Although there was a fluctuation in publications associated with ONFH, overall, the NP increased. China was the most prolific in this area, while the United States was the most influential country. The top 3 authors in terms of NP were Zhang, Motomura, and Zhao. Areas of focus in ONFH over recent years include signal pathway, genetic differentiation, glucocorticoid-induced osteogenesis, induced ischemic necrosis and osteogenesis.
Our bibliometrics analysis revealed the research hotspots and rapid development trends of ONFH research in the past 22 years. The most critical indicators [researchers, countries, research institutions, and journals publishing osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) research] relevant to the research hotspots in the field of ONFH research were analyzed.

Knowledge structure and emerging trends on osteonecrosis of the femoral head: a bibliometric and visualized study.
Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common disabling disease with considerable social and economic impacts. Although extensive studies related to ONFH have been conducted in recent years, a specific bibliometric analysis on this topic has not yet been performed. Our study attempted to summarize the comprehensive knowledge map, development landscape, and future directions of ONFH research with the bibliometric approach.
All publications concerning ONFH published from 2001 to 2020 were identified from Web of Science Core Collection. Key bibliometric indicators were calculated and evaluated using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the online bibliometric analysis platform.
A total of 2594 publications were included. Our analysis revealed a significant exponential growth trend in the annual number of publications over the past 20 years (R2 = 0.9663). China, the USA, and Japan were the major contributors both from the quality and quantity points of view. Correlation analysis indicated that there was a high positive correlation between the number of publications and gross domestic product (r = 0.774), and a moderate positive correlation between publications and demographic factor (r = 0.673). All keywords were categorized into four clusters including Cluster 1 (etiology and risk factors study); Cluster 2 (basic research and stem cell therapy); cluster 3 (hip-preserving study); and Cluster 4 (hip replacement study). Stem cell therapy-related research has been recognized as an important research hotspot in this field. Several topics including exosomes, autophagy, biomarkers, osteogenic differentiation, microRNAs, steroid-induced osteonecrosis, mesenchymal stem cells, double-blind, early-stage osteonecrosis, and asymptomatic osteonecrosis were considered as research focuses in the near future.
Over the past two decades, increasing attention has been paid to global ONFH-related research. Our bibliometric findings provide valuable information for researchers to understand the basic knowledge structure, identify the current research hotspots, potential collaborators, and future research frontiers in this field.

Global Trends and Current Status in Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head: A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications in the Last 30 Years.
Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a progressive and disabling disease with severe socioeconomic burdens. In the last 30 years, a growing number of publications have reported significant advances in understanding ONFH. However, only a few studies have clarified its global trends and current status. Thus, the purpose of our study was to summarize the global trends and current status in ONFH through bibliometrics.
Publications related to ONFH from 1991 to 2020 were searched from the Web of Science (WOS) core collection database. The data were analyzed with bibliometric methods. Microsoft Excel was used for statistical analysis and to draw bar charts. SPSS was applied to perform linear regression analysis. VOSviewer was used to conduct bibliographic coupling analysis, co-authorship analysis, co-citation analysis and co-occurrence analysis.
A total of 5,523 publications were covered. The United States consistently ranked first in total publications, sum of times cited, average citations per item and H-index. Kyushu University was the main contributor to ONFH. Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research was the major publishing channels for ONFH-related articles. Takuaki Yamamoto published the most ONFH-related articles. Studies regarding ONFH could be divided into five clusters: 1) mechanism study, 2) treatment study, 3) complication study, 4) radiological study and 5) etiological study. Mechanism study might become a hot spot in the future.
The total number of publications in ONFH has generally increased over the last three decades. The United States was the leading country in ONFH research. Transplantation, engineering, cell and molecular biology, pharmacology and endocrinology have gradually increased and become hot topics in ONFH research. Mechanism study in ONFH including mesenchymal stem cells, apoptosis, oxidative stress, adipogenesis, osteogenic differentiation and endothelial progenitor cells, have attracted more attention and will become a hot spot in the future.
