Research Trends of Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy in the Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation Over the Past Decade: A Bibliometric Analysis.
This study aimed to explore the research trends of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy in treating lumbar disc herniation using bibliometrics over the past ten years.
Relevant publications on the clinical application of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy in lumbar disc herniation were searched in the Web of Science Core Collection. Subsequently, the characteristics of all these articles were collected. Visualizing data of annual publications, journals, cited journals, authors, cited authors, countries, institutions, keywords, and cited references was performed by using CiteSpace (6.1.R6).
A total of 642 publications were extracted between 2013 and 2022. The number of publications peaked in the year 2020. The most prolific journal was World Neurosurgery (81), and Spine (597) as the cited journal was the most popular one. China (393) was the most prolific country, followed by South Korea (100). The institution with the most productivity was Tongji University (35). Yue Zhou (20) was the most prolific author, and Sebastian Ruetten (310) was the most cited author. The keyword "interlaminar" was top of research developments with the highest citation burst (8.69). "Lumbar disc herniation", "surgical technique", and "complication" were popular keywords. The surgical procedures and complications of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy have been the hot topics of recent research.
This study summarized the current situation and development trends of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy clinical research in the form of visualization, and these findings may help researchers explore new directions in the future.

Current Status and research hotspots in the field of full endoscopic spine surgery: A bibliometric analysis.
We aimed to comprehensively analyze the current status, hotspots, and trends in full endoscopic spine surgery (FESS) research using bibliometric analysis and knowledge domain mapping.
The Web of Science database was used to screen FESS-related articles published between January 1, 1993 and June 10, 2022. The evaluation involved the following criteria: total number of articles; H-index; and contributions from countries/regions, institutions, journals, and authors.
A total of 1,064 articles were included. Since 2016, there have been a significant number of publications in the field of FESS. The country/region contributing the largest number of articles was China (37.8%), followed by South Korea (24%), the United States (16.1%), Japan (5.7%), and Germany (5.1%). South Korea (35) had the highest H-index, followed by the United States (27), China (22), Japan (21), and Germany (20). World Neurosurgery (15.7%) published the largest number of FESS-related articles. However, among the top 10 most cited articles, six were published in Spine. The author who contributed the most was S.H. Lee (5.4%), and the largest number of contributions in this field originated from Wooridul Spine Hospital (South Korea; 6.1%). Notably, six of the 10 most published authors in this field were from South Korea. Of the top five productive institutions, three were from South Korea. The keywords with the strongest citation bursts in the field of FESS were "lumbar spine," "discectomy," "interlaminar," "surgical technique," "follow-up," "excision," "thoracic spine," and "endoscopic surgery." The 10 clusters generated in this study were: "endoscopic discectomy" (#0), "thoracic myelopathy" (#1), "recurrent lumbar disc herniation" (#2), "low back pain" (#3), "cervical vertebrae" (#4), "lumbar spinal stenosis" (#5), "transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion" (#6), "radiation exposure" (#7), "management" (#8), and "lumbar spine" (#9).
Global research on FESS is mostly concentrated in a few countries/regions and authors. South Korea has made the largest contribution to the field of FESS. Based on the most cited keyword bursts and clusters, the focus of FESS research was found to include its indications, management, and applications.

Bibliometric and Visualization Analysis of Research Hotspots and Frontiers in Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy.
The increasing utilization of endoscopic lumbar discectomy (ELD) in spinal surgery has sparked widespread interest and research. This study utilizes bibliometric analysis to identify current research trends and advancements in this innovative surgical technique, with the goal of informing and improving surgical practices.
We retrieved relevant literature on ELD from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) within the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database as research samples. Various visualization tools, such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, Scimago Graphica, Pajek, and online bibliometric platform, were employed to generate scientific knowledge maps for the purpose of visual presentation and data analysis.
Over the past two decades, there has been significant progress in the research related to ELD, particularly since 2016. China has emerged as the most productive country, while South Korea and the United States have exerted greater academic influence. Tongji University has contributed the highest number of research output, while academic achievements published by Wooridul Spine Hospital are highly esteemed by scholars. Lee SH and Ruetten S are the most prolific author and the most highly cited author, respectively. World Neurosurg has published the highest number of publications, while Spine has become the most influential journal. Clinical Neurology and Surgery are the primary subject categories. Research in this field primarily revolves around improving ELD techniques, evaluating postoperative efficacy and prognosis prediction, studying complications and risk factors, as well as comparative research with other surgical techniques. Keywords such as risk factors, LDH, PETD, lumbar spinal stenosis, degeneration, recurrent herniation, laminectomy, local anesthesia, and foraminoplasty highlight the current research hotspots and future cutting-edge trends.
This study employed bibliometric analysis to elucidate the research hotspots and frontiers in ELD. The findings have significant implications for advancing research and development in this field.

Research Trends of the Research and Development of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Therapy on Lumbar Disc Herniation: A Bibliometric Analysis.
Acupuncture and moxibustion has been applied worldwide in the treatment of various pain diseases including lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and other pain, However, there has been no bibliometric analysis on this aspect in the past five years. Therefore, this study was carried out for finding research trends and fronts in this field using Citespace and VOSviewer.
Publications about acupuncture therapy for LDH were extracted from the Web of Science database and PubMed with an unlimited time frame. A bibliometric analysis and visualization of results was conducted using CiteSpace 6.1.R3 and VOSviewer 1.6.18 on the information of the annual publication, countries, journals, institutions, authors, references, and keywords.
A total of 127 publications were included, and the number of publications had increased noticeably over the past 30 years and reached a peak in the past 3 years. The most productive country with the most publications was China, whose Medical University was the institution with the highest volume of publications. The most productive author was Chen Rixin, while the most-cited author was Kreiner DS. Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion was the journal with the most publications, and Spine Journal was the most frequently cited journal. In cited references, an article published in The New England Journal of Medicine by Deyo RA had the most citations and the highest centrality. Of the keywords, the five most frequently used keywords include lumbar disc herniation, acupuncture, low back pain, intervertebral disc displacement, and management.
Acupuncture and moxibustion can help to relieve symptoms in patients. However, this field is in the early stages of development and requires more high-quality research studies and international collaborations. In addition, exploring the effectiveness and mechanism of acupuncture for LDH is the hot trend in the future.
