Bibliometric and visualization analysis of macrophages associated with osteoarthritis from 1991 to 2021.
Macrophages significantly contributes to symptomology and structural progression of osteoarthritis (OA) and raise increasing attention in the relative research field. Recent studies have shown that tremendous progress has been made in the research of macrophages associated with osteoarthritis. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis is lacking in this research field. This study aimed to introduce the research status as well as hotspots and explore the field of macrophages research in OA from a bibliometric perspective.
This study collected 1481 records of macrophages associated with osteoarthritis from 1991 to 2021 in the web of science core collection (WoSCC) database. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R package "bibliometrix" software were used to analyze regions, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords to predict the latest trends in macrophages associated with osteoarthritis research.
The number of publications related to macrophages associated with osteoarthritis is increasing annually. China and the USA, contributing more than 44% of publications, were the main drivers for research in this field. League of European Research Universities was the most active institution and contributed the most publications. Arthritis and Rheumatism is the most popular journal in this field with the largest publications, while Osteoarthritis and Cartilage is the most co-cited journal. Koch AE was the most prolific writer, while Bondeson J was the most commonly co-cited author. "Rheumatology", "Orthopedics", and "Immunology" were the most widely well-represented research areas of OA associated macrophages. "Rheumatoid arthritis research", "clinical symptoms", "regeneration research", "mechanism research", "pathological features", and "surgery research" are the primary keywords clusters in this field.
This is the first bibliometric study comprehensively mapped out the knowledge structure and development trends in the research field of macrophages associated with osteoarthritis in recent 30 years. The results comprehensively summarize and identify the research frontiers which will provide a reference for scholars studying macrophages associated with osteoarthritis.

Bibliometric and visualization analysis of matrix metalloproteinases in ischemic stroke from 1992 to 2022.
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are important players in the complex pathophysiology of ischemic stroke (IS). Recent studies have shown that tremendous progress has been made in the research of MMPs in IS. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis is lacking in this research field. This study aimed to introduce the research status as well as hotspots and explore the field of MMPs in IS from a bibliometric perspective.
This study collected 1,441 records related to MMPs in IS from 1979 to 2022 in the web of science core collection (WoSCC) database, among them the first paper was published in 1992. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R package "bibliometrix" software were used to analyze the publication type, author, institution, country, keywords, and other relevant data in detail, and made descriptive statistics to provide new ideas for future clinical and scientific research.
The change in the number of publications related to MMPs in IS can be divided into three stages: the first stage was from 1992 to 2012, when the number of publications increased steadily; the second stage was from 2013 to 2017, when the number of publications was relatively stable; the third stage was from 2018 to 2022, when the number of publications began to decline. The United States and China, contributing more than 64% of publications, were the main drivers for research in this field. Universities in the United States were the most active institutions and contributed the most publications. STROKE is the most popular journal in this field with the largest publications as well as the most co-cited journal. Rosenberg GA was the most prolific writer and has the most citations. "Clinical," "Medical," "Neurology," "Immunology" and "Biochemistry molecular biology" were the main research areas of MMPs in IS. "Molecular regulation," "Metalloproteinase-9 concentration," "Clinical translation" and "Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion" are the primary keywords clusters in this field.
This is the first bibliometric study that comprehensively mapped out the knowledge structure and development trends in the research field of MMPs in IS in recent 30 years, which will provide a reference for scholars studying this field.

Bibliometric study and visualization of cellular senescence associated with osteoarthritis from 2009 to 2023.
Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease that is highly prevalent in the elderly population. Along with the occurrence of sports injuries, osteoarthritis is gradually showing a younger trend. Osteoarthritis has many causative factors, and its pathogenesis is currently unknown. Cellular senescence is a stable form of cell cycle arrest exhibited by cells in response to external stimuli and plays a role in a variety of diseases. And it is only in the last decade or so that cellular senescence has gradually become cross-linked with osteoarthritis. However, there is no comprehensive bibliometric analysis in this field. The aim of this study is to present the current status and research hotspots of cellular senescence in the field of osteoarthritis, and to predict the future trends of cellular senescence in osteoarthritis research from a bibliometric perspective.
This study included 298 records of cellular senescence associated with osteoarthritis from 2009 to 2023, with data from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace, Scimago Graphica software, VOSviewer, and the R package "bibliometrix" software were used to analyze regions, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords to predict recent trends in cellular senescence related to osteoarthritis research.
The number of publications related to cellular senescence associated with osteoarthritis is increasing year by year. China and the United States contribute more than 70% of the publications and are the mainstay of research in this field. Central South University is the most active institution with the largest number of publications. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is the most popular journal in the field with the largest number of publications, while Osteoarthritis and Cartilage is the most cited journal. Loeser, Richard F. is not only the most prolific author, but also the most frequently cited author, contributing greatly to the field.
In the last decade or so, this is the first bibliometric study that systematically describes the current status and development trend of research on cellular senescence associated with osteoarthritis. The study comprehensively and systematically summarizes and concludes the research hotspots and development trends, providing valuable references for researchers in this field.

Global research hotspots and frontier trends of epigenetic modifications in autoimmune diseases: A bibliometric analysis from 2012 to 2022.
Recent studies have shown substantial progress in understanding the association between epigenetics and autoimmune diseases. However, there is a lack of comprehensive bibliometric analysis in this research area. This article aims to present the current status and hot topics of epigenetic research in autoimmune diseases (ADs) from a bibliometric perspective, as well as explore the frontier hotspots and trends in epigenetic studies related to ADs.
This study collected 1870 epigenetic records related to autoimmune diseases from the web of science core collection database, spanning from 2012 to 2022. Analysis of regions, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords was conducted using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the R package "bibliometrix" to predict the latest trends in epigenetic research relevant to autoimmune diseases.
The number of epigenetic publications related to autoimmune diseases has been increasing annually. The United States has played a major role in this field, contributing over 45.9% of publications and leading in terms of publication volume and citation counts. Central South University emerged as the most active institution, contributing the highest number of publications. Frontiers in Immunology is the most popular journal in this field, publishing the most articles, while the Journal of Autoimmunity is the most co-cited journal. Lu QJ is the most prolific author, and Zhao M is the most frequently co-cited author. "Immunology" serves as a broad representative of epigenetic research in ADs. Hot topics in the field of epigenetic modifications associated with autoimmune diseases include "regulatory T cells (Treg)," "rheumatoid arthritis," "epigenetic regulation," "cAMPresponsive element modulator alpha," "cell-specific enhancer," "genetic susceptibility," and "systemic lupus erythematosus." Furthermore, the study discusses the frontiers and existing issues of epigenetic modifications in the development of autoimmune diseases.
This study provides a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure and developmental trends in epigenetic research related to autoimmune diseases over the past 11 years.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Exosomes Therapy in the Treatment of Osteoarthritis from 2012 to 2022.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common clinical disease characterized by the destruction of articular cartilage, subchondral ossification, cystic degeneration and osteophyte formation. Recently, more and more scholars draw attention to exosomes in the field of OA, and exciting breakthroughs have been achieved in recent years. However, bibliometric analysis of the literature in this research field is lacking. Considering its potential in treatment of OA, this article aimed to analyze the research status and identify future hotspots of exosomes in osteoarthritis in recent 10 years by bibliometrics tools.
Relevant publications in this field from 2012 to 2022 was retrieved from the Web of Science core collection database (WOSSCC). And we used Vosviewers, CiteSpace, an online analysis platform and the R package "Bibliometrix" for bibliometric analysis.
A total of 484 publications (including 319 articles and 165 reviews) from 51 countries, 720 institutions, were included in this study. IRCCS Ist Ortoped Galeazzi, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Sun Yat-sen University are the leading research institutions in this field. International Journal of Molecular Sciences contributed the largest number of articles, and Osteoarthritis and Cartilage is the most co-cited journal. Of the 2664 scholars who participated in the study, Ragni E, De Girolamo L, Orfei CP, and Colombini A had the largest number of articles. Zhang, SP is the most co-cited author. "Mesenchymal stem cell", "biomaterials", "Inflammation" and "regenerative medicine" are the keywords in the research.
This is the first bibliometric analysis of exosomes in osteoarthritis. We explored current research status in recent years and identified frontiers and hot spots in this research field. We highlight the significant roles of mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-Exos) in the treatment of osteoarthritis, and identified exosomal biomaterials as frontier in this research domain, which can provide reference for the researchers who focus on this research field.
