期刊描述简介:
NeuroImage: Clinical, a journal of diseases, disorders and syndromes involving the Nervous System, provides a vehicle for communicating important advances in the study of abnormal structure-function relationships of the human nervous system based on imaging. The focus of NeuroImage: Clinical is on defining changes to the brain associated with primary neurologic and psychiatric diseases and disorders of the nervous system as well as behavioral syndromes and developmental conditions. The main criterion for judging papers is the extent of scientific advancement in the understanding of the pathophysiologic mechanisms of diseases and disorders, in identification of functional models that link clinical signs and symptoms with brain function and in the creation of image based tools applicable to a broad range of clinical needs including diagnosis, monitoring and tracking of illness, predicting therapeutic response and development of new treatments. Papers dealing with structure and function in animal models will also be considered if they reveal mechanisms that can be readily translated to human conditions. The journal welcomes original research articles as well as papers on innovative methods, models, databases, theory or conceptual positions provided that they involve imaging approaches and demonstrate significant new opportunities for understanding clinical problems.

Neural responses to decision-making in suicide attempters with youth major depressive disorder.
An improved understanding of the factors associated with suicidal attempts in youth suffering from depression is crucial for the identification and prevention of future suicide risk. However, there is limited understanding of how neural activity is modified during the process of decision-making. Our study aimed to investigate the neural responses in suicide attempters with major depressive disorder (MDD) during decision-making. Electroencephalography (EEG) was recorded from 79 individuals aged 16-25 with MDD, including 39 with past suicide attempts (SA group) and 40 without (NSA group), as well as from 40 age- and sex- matched healthy controls (HCs) during the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT). All participants completed diagnostic interviews, self-report questionnaires. Our study examined feedback processing by measuring the feedback-related negativity (FRN), ΔFN (FRN-loss minus FRN-gain), and the P300 as electrophysiological indicators of feedback evaluation. The SA group showed poorest IGT performance. SA group and NSA group, compared with HC group, exhibited specific deficits in decision-making (i.e., exhibited smaller (i.e., blunted) ΔFN). Post hoc analysis found that the SA group was the least sensitive to gains and the most sensitive to losses. In addition, we also found that the larger the value of ΔFN, the better the decision-making ability and the lower the impulsivity. Our study highlights the link between suicide attempts and impaired decision-making in individuals with major depressive disorder. These findings constitute an important step in gaining a better understanding of the specific reward-related abnormalities that could contribute to the young MDD patients with suicide attempts.

Unveiling MRI markers for Parkinson's Disease: GABAergic dysfunction and cortical changes.
The study aimed to investigate changes in basal levels of the inhibitory γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurotransmitter in the sensorimotor cortex (SMC) and cortical gyrification in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), which could further identify potential imaging biomarkers for PD, particularly in patients with early-onset Parkinson's disease (EOPD). Fifty patients with PD (EOPD: 10, late-onset Parkinson's disease [LOPD]: 40) and fifty-two age- and gender-matched healthy controls (HC) underwent GABA-edited 1H MRS of the SMC and high-resolution 3D T1-weighted brain imaging. GABA levels and local gyrification index (LGI) were calculated to assess GABAergic and cortical gyrification deficits in PD. The Pearson correlation coefficients revealed significant negative associations between eight indicators, including GABA/Cr level and local gyrification index (LGI) of specific cortical regions (precentral, postcentral, entorhinal, superiortemporal, posteriorcingulate, cuneus, and transversetemporal cortex), and the likelihood of Parkinson's disease (r < -0.4, p < 0.001). Additionally, GABA levels were significantly lower in the SMC region of both EOPD and LOPD patients compared to healthy controls (mean ± SD [u.i.]: EOPD=0.081 ± 0.022 vs. Young-HC=0.112 ± 0.021, p = 0.003; LOPD=0.054 ± 0.024 vs. Old-HC=0.099 ± 0.021, p < 0.001). The logistic regression model was established by using multivariate analysis, identifying two statistically significant indicators: GABA/Cr and LGI of the transversetemporal. The combined model exhibited the highest AUC values in both younger and older populations. GABAergic dysfunction may play an important role in the pathogenesis of PD patients. Changes in neurotransmitter and morphological may serve as potential markers for the preclinical diagnosis and progression of PD, including EOPD.
