The Relationship Between Social Media Use, Nurse Characteristics, and Job Decision-Making.
To describe nurses' use of social media and examine the relationship between social media use, nurse characteristics, and job decision-making. Social media shares information, connects, and influences thought. A gap remains in understanding how nurses use social media for professional purposes. A national survey of RNs and advanced practice RNs included demographics, questions about which social media platforms respondents use personally and professionally, and engagement activities on each platform. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Cramér's V test, and binomial logistic regression. Eight hundred twelve nurses participated. Platforms and activities used by nurses varied significantly by age, job title, and employment. The majority (61%) of respondents were satisfied or highly satisfied with their job, yet about one-third intended to leave their position or organization within 1 to 12 months. Nurse leaders should adopt a strategic, data-informed approach to leverage social media in attracting and retaining a diverse nursing workforce.

Supportive Workplace Wellness Cultures and Mattering Are Associated With Less Burnout and Mental Health Issues in Nurse Managers.
The aims of this study were to describe burnout, mental health, and healthy lifestyle behaviors of nurses in a managerial role and assess associations among workplace culture factors (perceived culture, mattering, support, and staff shortages) with burnout, mental health outcomes, and healthy lifestyle behaviors. Nurse managers foster unit-based wellness cultures, yet burnout and mental health problems adversely impact the culture and well-being of staff. A cross-sectional, descriptive correlational design was used. The Florida Organization for Nursing Leadership enabled distribution of a wellness survey to nurse managers. There were 125 participants. Healthy lifestyle behaviors were infrequently practiced. Analysis revealed significant correlations among workplace culture factors, burnout, and mental health outcomes. When compared with nurse managers with staff shortages, those without staff shortages were 6.11 times more likely to not screen positive for burnout. Health systems should address workplace culture factors and staff shortages to reduce burnout, improve mental health, and enhance healthy behaviors in nurse managers.

Emerging Nurse Billing and Reimbursement Models.
To explore and make recommendations to implement direct billing and reimbursement models for nursing care in the United States. Nurses make up the largest group of healthcare professionals and within hospitals, nurses represent approximately a quarter of all resources and associated costs of patient care. This care is mostly hidden in daily room and board charges. The authors surveyed the recent and historical literature related to costing and billing for nursing care. These results were synthesized and led to the recommendation of several new models to cost, bill, and pay for nursing care provided by nurses who are not currently billing for their services. Two basic billing models are proposed: the 1st is to remove nursing care out of the current daily room or facility-based charges and allocate nursing care time provided to each patient during each day of stay. The 2nd is to expand existing Current Procedural Terminology codes to bill for specific activities and interventions by nurses in all settings where nursing care is delivered. It is feasible to implement the proposed methods to identify patient-level nursing intensity, cost, services, and interventions provided by individual nurses in all healthcare settings.

Staffing Models: Making Increased Acuity Safe in the Pediatric ICU.
Traditional staffing models rely on the productivity metric of hours per patient day, lacking the ability to adequately capture the nursing workload. Acuity-based staffing considers the patient population's acuity for appropriate nursing workload. Using process improvement methodology, a pediatric ICU transitioned to an acuity-based staffing model resulting in an 11.3% ( P < 0.05) reduction in the acuity per nursing assignment and a decrease in reportable safety events by 61.3% ( P < 0.05).

Legislating Nurse Staffing: Projected Impact on Hospital Economics, Process Flow, and Hospital-Associated Infections in Montana.
The aim of this study was to project the impact of legislated nurse staffing ratios on patient-, staff-, and system-level outcomes for Prospective Payment System (PPS) hospitals in Montana. In 2023, House Bill 568 was introduced in Montana focused on legislating hospital safe nursing standards. A quantitative design was used for a convenience sample of Montana PPS hospitals. Data were gathered through a newly developed survey and from other publicly available sources for the years 2018 to 2022. Independent t tests were conducted when appropriate with the significance threshold set at 0.05. Projections indicate no significant change in patient outcome metrics accompanied by increases in labor requirements, slower emergency department throughput times, and decreases in hospital operating margins. In Montana, legislating nurse staffing ratios would have downstream implications inconsistent with the intended impact on patient safety, emphasizing the complexity of variables within and external to the healthcare system that drive patient-, staff-, and system-level outcomes.
